Fayola Autry

Fayola is entering her second year of the 2-year program.  She is a California native, born and raised in the “City of Angels”.  She graduated from UCLA in 2007 with a BA in African American studies and Sociology. She minored in African Studies with a Specialization in Poverty and Rural Development.  She is particularly interested in linguistic and socio-cultural anthropology and its intersection with Public Health, especially since anthropological information can provide an avenue for the improvement of women's reproductive health in developing nations.
Prior to completing UCLA last spring, she worked for several years as a volunteer health officer and primary school educator in 8 different developing nations. For three years she served as a Co-Director and Outreach coordinator for a teen mother mentoring program in South Central Los Angeles. The program provided academic, financial, medical and mental health services to a select group of young mothers between the ages of 11 and 19.

Her life's greatest accomplishments, thus far and those yet to come, have been inspired by the beauty of her two daughters, and her undying love for her ancestors. Her life’s mission is to facilitate the development of Maternal and Child Health resource centers in the communities most in need of care, globally.
