Born and raised in Sacramento, CA, Suzanne attended St. Francis High School, which is an all girls school that she genuinely did enjoy despite many peoples' disbelief. She was very active in school extracurriculars, in particular student council, and she played varsity tennis all four years. UCLA is her Alma mater so she is excited to graduate from "Bruin" to full-grown "Bear" come August. Her involvement with Support for International Change through UCLA is what truly sparked her interest in global public health and directed her compassion and altruism to causes in Africa. She worked with SIC to limit the impact of HIV/AIDS on rural communities in the Arusha area of Tanzania, where she lived for over two months as a volunteer, and then again the following year for three months as a program coordinator. As a FLAS Fellowship recipient, she is excited to continue to improve upon her Swahili skills, which she is aware is probably the most useful second language. To further develop a broader sense of her personality, one should know that she loves a good farmers market, NPR, crosswords, the outdoors and Arrested Development. Go Bears.
