Maureen Healy

Maureen Healy is a student in the one-year MCH program.  In May 2009, she completed her MSW with a concentration in Health from the School of Social Welfare at UC, Berkeley.  As a student of social welfare, Maureen interned at an acute care hospital and at an outpatient mental health counseling center for victims of violence.  She is interested in how traumatic stress, including experiences of oppression such as racism and homophobia, impacts the health and mental health of individuals, families and communities.  She is also interested in how public health agencies can incorporate mental health services to better serve our communities.  Prior to entering the MSW program, Maureen worked as a licensed massage therapist, where she first began to appreciate the role of stress on one’s mental and physical well-being.   She has continued to practice massage therapy throughout her graduate studies in order to keep her relaxed and grounded.
